     623     RERUNS

623.1.1     A competitor who is hindered while racing by the error of an official, by a spectator, by an animal, or by any other causes, can apply to the referee (or designated substitute of referee) for a rerun immediately after the interference and may not ski further through the gates, i.e. must ski off the course immediately after interference.

623.2     GROUNDS FOR INTERFERENCE

623.2.1     Blocking of the course by an official, a spectator, an animal or other hindrance.

623.2.2     Blocking of the course by a fallen competitor, who could not clear the course soon enough.

623.2.3     Objects in the course such as a lost ski pole or ski of a previous competitor.

623.2.4     Activities of the first aid service which hinder the competitor.

623.2.5     Absence of a gate knocked down by a previous competitor, and not promptly replaced.

623.2.6     Other similar incidents, which, beyond the will and control of the competitor, cause significant loss of speed or de facto lengthening of the racing line and thereby materially affect the competitor's time period.

          MMSC
623.2.7     Due to a lack of hand times or back up timing, these rules apply in no time situations. It is felt that it is not morally right to be able to win a race on a rerun following a run on which you fell but did not get a time. Therefore:

          MMSC
623.2.7.1     If a racer goes off course or falls without losing a ski for obviously more than 1.5 seconds (in a manner uncharacteristic to a person's normal run) and completes the run and a time has not been posted, then a 1.5 second penalty will be assessed to that racer's re-run.

          MMSC
623.2.7.2     Should the racer fall on a re-run following a run free of major mistakes where there was no time registered (and the 1.5 second rule does not apply) another re-run with a 1.0 second penalty will be awarded. (The intent is that this will even the score for our original timing error.)

MMSC
623.2.7.3     To avoid excessive tightening of bindings, it is permissible to get a re-run if one or both skis come off prior to the first gate.

623.3     VALIDITY OF A RE-RUN

623.3.1     In case the referee or another jury member is unable to question immediately the appropriate officials or judge the justification for a re-run, he may, to avoid delay for the competitor, grant a provisional re-run. This re-run will valid only if it is confirmed by the jury.

623.3.2     If the competitor was already disqualified before the incident entitling him to a re-run, the re-run is not valid.

623.3.3     The provisionally or definitively approved re-runs remains valid if it proves slower than the first (hindered) run. Once a racer has left the start gate during a re-run, he cannot under any circumstances claim his first run time.  For official purposes, his first run time no longer exists. .

623.3.4     If the claim for re-run is shown to be unjustified, the competitor is disqualified. (See 630.1.10)

623.4     START TIME OP THE RE-RUN
A racer who has been granted a re-run by the referee may take that re-run at any time during the conduct of the race, at racer's convenience. A racer re-running may not, however, displace a racer who is in the start gate. Racer who is rerunning must inform starter of his/her intentions in such timely manner that conduct of race is neither slowed or delayed to accommodate the re-rerun.

624     CANCELLATION OF COMPETITION
Before race has started: Start of competition may be cancelled by a committee established by the MMSC Senior Race Committee.

630     DISQUALIFICATIONS

630.1     A competitor is disqualified by the referee upon receipt of a properly recorded fault from an assigned race official present at the point of infraction and signed. A racer may be subject to disqualification if he/she:

630.1.1     participates in the race under false pretenses,

630.1.2     does not comply with the safety regulation, (See USSA Important Message to Competitors and Racer
Responsibility Code).

630.1.3     trains on course closed for competitors, alters the course, or acts contrary to the instruction of the jury as to the execution of the training or the race.

630.1.4     does not have their official bib on their person during the course inspection

630.1.5     makes a false start or violates the regulations for the execution of the start (See the art. 613)

630.1.6     fails to cross the gate lines between the poles of the gates with both ski tips and both feet (art. 661.4).

630.1.7     fails to cover the course on skis or to pass the finish in accordance with the art. 614.3

630.1.8     accepts outside help in any form during the race,

630.1.9     fails to give way to an overtaking competitor .at the first call or interferes with his run.

630.1.10     unjustly requests a re-run, which is later shown to be unsubstantiated,

630.1.11     displays unsportsmanlike conduct as described in #10 USSA Rules and Regulations (See pp. 20-21)

631     DISCIPLINARY MEASURES BY THE JURY OR REFEREE

631.1.3     By continuing after interference, the competitor loses a right to claim a re-run. (art. 623, 630.1.10)
